M-PESA Africa users can now top up phones for people in over 70 countries directly from the app. This long-awaited feature is available under the “Buy Airtime” option.
In addition to the international airtime purchase, the update also brings an extra layer of security with two-factor authentication (2FA). This requires users to verify their identity with a code sent to their phone, making it harder for unauthorized access. This is a welcome improvement considering the recent rise in mobile money scams. The update also includes bug fixes to improve the overall user experience. The update is already available for iOS users, while Android users will see it rolling out gradually. You can check your app store for the update if you don’t have auto-update enabled.
