Oracle, renowned for its database management systems and cloud solutions, has announced plans to establish two Oracle Cloud Regions in Morocco. This major development aims to provide enterprise cloud services to local and regional organisations throughout Africa, enabling Oracle customers and partners to transition mission-critical workloads from their data centres to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

The new cloud regions in Casablanca and Settat will help customers comply with local regulations while offering access to a diverse range of cloud services. These services are essential for modernising applications and fostering innovation with AI, data, and analytics. Oracle’s commitment to Africa is evident in this strategic move, which will significantly contribute to the digital transformation of Moroccan and regional enterprises, startups, universities, and investors.

Ghita Mezzour, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in Charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, highlighted the significance of this expansion. She noted that it positions Morocco as a unique regional player, fostering dynamic skill development and creating growth opportunities.

Richard Smith, Executive Vice President of Technology, EMEA at Oracle, emphasized the transformative potential of the new Oracle Cloud Regions. He stated, “The upcoming Oracle Cloud Regions will offer enterprise-grade cloud capabilities to help organisations quickly deliver new solutions, build resilience, and explore new markets to help accelerate growth. The new regions will also serve as the foundation for the Moroccan government’s modernisation of its public services to better serve its people.”

This announcement follows Oracle’s recent commitment to expand its research and development (R&D) capabilities in Morocco by hiring 1,000 IT professionals. This investment will accelerate the development of Oracle’s cutting-edge technologies, addressing customer challenges on a global scale.

In May 2022, Oracle revealed plans to open a new branch of Oracle Labs at Casanearshore Park in Casablanca. This facility will house up to 100 researchers who will leverage Oracle’s cloud, AI, and machine learning technologies to tackle pressing challenges in business, science, and the public sector.
