Prof. Verkooijen emphasized the economic growth potential of AI, stating, “We have the assets for it. We have the best computer science students, business entrepreneurship students, and combined with our innovation, we have something to build on for the future.” This initiative underscores UoN’s commitment to fostering innovation and preparing students for the evolving job market.

Recognizing the pivotal role AI will play in the future, Prof. Verkooijen highlighted the necessity of developing skills for future jobs. By offering specialized education in AI, UoN aims to position its graduates at the forefront of technological advancements and economic development.

In addition to the AI school, UoN is planning to establish a Green Jobs Centre. With these ambitious plans, the University of Nairobi is setting a new standard for higher education in Kenya and beyond. By investing in AI and green jobs education, UoN is not only enhancing its academic offerings but also ensuring that its students are well-equipped to thrive in an increasingly complex and dynamic world.
