Tesla announced a significant shift in its strategy, prioritizing “new models” built on existing platforms for a faster rollout by early 2025. This move comes after the company reportedly shelved plans for the Model 2, a highly anticipated low-cost electric vehicle. While details remain scarce, Tesla promises these new offerings will be more affordable and leverage aspects of their current production lines.

This revised strategy prioritizes cost control during uncertain economic times. Tesla will avoid the risks associated with a “revolutionary” manufacturing process initially planned for the Model 2. Existing engineering efforts will be adapted to the new vehicles, ensuring a quicker time to market. Analysts believe this confirms the halt of the Model 2 project.

Looking beyond passenger cars, Tesla emphasized its commitment to developing a “purpose-built robotaxi product” with a revolutionary manufacturing process. The company also envisions an “AI robotics company” future, offering robotaxis as part of a network similar to Airbnb and Uber. However, timelines for these ambitious plans remain unclear.

Tesla’s stock price surged after-hours despite missing Wall Street’s quarterly financial expectations. Investors welcomed the promise of more affordable cars, but some remain cautious due to past delays. This shift in strategy could significantly impact Tesla’s future, with a focus on cost control and leveraging existing resources.
