Bolt and M-KOPA have teamed up to introduce electric motorcycles in Kenya, offering new and existing drivers the opportunity to lease ROAM and Ampersand electric bikes at discounted rates. Drivers on the Bolt platform can now access electric bikes for as low as $74.35 – $111.52, thanks to vehicle financing facilitated by M-KOPA, ROAM, and Ampersand.
Through this partnership, Bolt aims to make electric motorbike ownership more affordable by leveraging M-KOPA’s fintech platform to reduce associated expenses significantly. Drivers can join the fleet supported by M-KOPA, operate exclusively on the Bolt platform, and eventually own the bikes after the lease period.
Caroline Wanjihia, Bolt’s Regional Director for RideHailing Operations in Africa & International Markets, highlighted the initiative’s dual benefits of reducing environmental impact and enhancing driver earnings. She emphasized that drivers participating in the pilot launch could see significantly increased daily earnings compared to petrol motorcycles, reinforcing Bolt’s commitment to driving positive change and economic empowerment within its driver community.
David Damberger, Managing Director of M-KOPA Mobility, underscored the commitment to redefine mobility in Kenya by offering affordable financing solutions for electric motorbikes, especially for the underbanked. Partnering with Bolt represents a significant step towards this goal, enabling broader reach and support for more customers transitioning to sustainable transport solutions.
