The Kenyan government outlines an ambitious five-year plan, allocating Sh394 billion for the construction, repair, and improvement of major highways, despite fiscal constraints leading to a reduction in the overall road budget.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) strategically allocates Sh192.5 billion for the enhancement of major roads, including the dualling of the Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit, with an additional Sh117 billion earmarked for the construction of new roads.

Emphasizing the importance of road development, the government, facing a risk of debt distress, opts for partnerships with the #private sector for certain projects, including three toll roads, aligning with its commitment to infrastructure growth while navigating financial challenges.

KeNHA’s comprehensive plan includes mobilizing funds for toll roads, such as the Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit and Mau Summit-Malaba sections, promoting collaboration with the private sector.

Despite financial constraints, the government highlights critical projects like the Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway, set to cost Sh25 billion, showcasing its commitment to strategic infrastructure development through a combination of public-private partnerships and targeted funding allocations.
