Google Cloud has officially launched its Johannesburg cloud region in South Africa, offering businesses across the continent access to high-performance, secure, and low-latency cloud services. To mark this milestone, a launch event is scheduled later this year in Johannesburg to celebrate the opening of the cloud region and highlight its potential for transforming businesses across Africa.

The internet economy in Africa is projected to reach $180 billion by 2025, constituting 5.2% of the continent’s GDP. Recognizing the significance of Africa’s digital transformation, Google has committed $1 billion to support key drivers such as infrastructure investment, nurturing tech talent, and fostering a vibrant startup ecosystem.

The Google Cloud region in Johannesburg aims to accelerate the African tech ecosystem, empowering organizations to scale, #innovate, and compete globally. With this addition, Google’s network now comprises 40 cloud regions and 121 zones worldwide, connected through a secure network of high-capacity fiber optic cables. Moreover, Google is dedicated to providing training on cloud technologies and supporting African startups, further fueling the continent’s digital growth and economic development.
