Democratic Republic of Congo’s Minister of Digital Economy, Augustin Kibassa Maliba, has met with a delegation from Expo Béton, led by organiser Jean Bamanisa, to discuss the role of digital technologies in urban development.
The meeting, held ahead of the 12th edition of Expo Béton, focused on integrating digital technologies into urban planning, infrastructure modernisation and the development of cities across the DRC.
Kibassa Maliba highlighted the role of digital technologies in designing and managing modern cities. Discussions identified digital transformation as an increasingly important tool for improving mobility, access to information, urban services and the overall attractiveness of cities.
The meeting also explored the concept “I am digital, I am not stuck,” which highlights how digital infrastructure and services can reduce unnecessary travel, improve communication and support the flow of information.
The discussions further addressed the integration of telecommunications infrastructure, including cables, poles and other equipment, into urban spaces while considering safety, aesthetics, urban planning and land use.
The Ministry and Expo Béton team also identified potential areas of collaboration around smart cities, digital infrastructure and the digital transformation of urban environments as the DRC works towards more connected and modern cities.
