Globacom led Nigeria’s telecommunications industry in internet subscriber growth during May 2026, adding approximately 1.2 million users and accounting for nearly half of the country’s total monthly internet subscriber additions, according to the latest data released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Nigeria’s total internet subscriber base increased from 154.3 million in April to 157 million in May, representing a monthly gain of approximately 2.67 million users. Globacom’s subscriber base grew from 15.5 million to 16.8 million during the period, narrowing the gap with the country’s larger operators through a combination of customer acquisition campaigns, retention initiatives and network improvements.
Airtel Nigeria recorded the second-highest growth, adding approximately 1.07 million internet subscribers to reach 55.8 million users, while MTN Nigeria maintained its position as the country’s largest internet service provider after adding 382,894 subscribers, increasing its customer base to approximately 83.5 million. T2 Mobile, formerly 9mobile, remained unchanged at 802,534 subscribers for the second consecutive month despite its national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria.
Industry analysts attributed Globacom’s strong performance to aggressive promotional campaigns, customer retention initiatives and infrastructure enhancements. The operator’s strategy included its “Welcome Back” campaign targeting inactive subscribers, smartphone bundle offers with data incentives, eSIM adoption and promotional rewards designed to attract new customers while reactivating dormant users.
Following the latest subscriber figures, MTN Nigeria remains the country’s largest internet provider with approximately 83.5 million subscribers, followed by Airtel Nigeria with 55.8 million, Globacom with 16.8 million and T2 Mobile with just over 802,000 subscribers. The latest NCC data highlights continued growth in Nigeria’s digital economy as operators intensify competition for mobile internet users.
