Lesotho has strengthened its national cybersecurity capabilities with the official launch of the LesCom Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) and the country’s first National Cybersecurity Forum (NCF), reinforcing efforts to build a secure and resilient digital economy.
Launched by the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI), the initiative is designed to improve the country’s ability to prevent, detect and respond to cybersecurity incidents while promoting collaboration between government, industry and other stakeholders.
Speaking during the launch, Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Honourable Nthati Moorosi, described the initiative as a major milestone in safeguarding Lesotho’s digital future. She noted that stronger cybersecurity capabilities are essential to protecting government systems, businesses and citizens from evolving cyber threats.
According to the minister, a robust cybersecurity framework will help secure digital infrastructure, protect digital payment systems, encourage innovation and strengthen investor confidence. She added that trusted digital systems are critical to supporting economic growth and expanding access to global markets.
The launch of the LesCom CSIRT and the National Cybersecurity Forum marks an important step in advancing Lesotho’s digital transformation agenda by improving cyber resilience, strengthening institutional collaboration and creating a safer digital environment for businesses and citizens.
