Egypt-founded AI infrastructure startup Stakpak has joined cloud platform company Vercel, marking a major milestone in its journey from a bootstrapped startup to becoming part of one of the world’s leading developer platforms focused on AI-powered infrastructure.
Founded in 2023 by George Fahmy, Stakpak was built around the vision of creating “self-driving infrastructure” through AI agents capable of automating software deployment, DevOps operations and infrastructure management. After operating as a bootstrapped company for two years, the startup secured its first funding round in 2024 before relocating its operations to San Francisco.
During its growth, Stakpak developed an open-source agent harness, a production-ready DevOps agent and AI-driven security systems designed to support autonomous infrastructure management. Its engineering team focused on building production-grade AI agents that simplify cloud operations while reducing the complexity of managing modern software infrastructure.
The move aligns with Vercel’s broader strategy of evolving beyond frontend cloud services into an agentic infrastructure platform where developers can build, deploy and manage AI agents capable of operating increasingly autonomous systems.
Founder George Fahmy described the milestone as an opportunity to help scale the vision of self-driving infrastructure, while acknowledging the support of early investors, including P1 Ventures, 500 Global and Digital Currency Group, as well as the open-source community that contributed to the company’s growth.
The development highlights the growing global impact of African-founded AI startups and reinforces the continent’s increasing contribution to the future of cloud computing, DevOps automation and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
