Apple has opened public access to its biggest Siri upgrade yet with the release of the iOS 27 Public Beta, giving millions of users their first opportunity to experience the company’s next-generation AI-powered assistant ahead of its official launch later this year.
Powered by Apple Intelligence, the redesigned Siri represents the most significant transformation of Apple’s voice assistant since its introduction. The update enables Siri to understand information stored across a user’s device, respond to on-screen content, answer more complex questions and complete multi-step tasks using natural, conversational language.
The upgraded assistant is deeply integrated across the Apple ecosystem, allowing users to access Siri through voice commands, the side button, Dynamic Island, Spotlight Search and a dedicated Siri app. It is also available across iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, AirPods, CarPlay and Vision Pro, delivering a more consistent AI experience across devices.
Apple says the new Siri is powered by its Foundation Models, combining on-device intelligence with Private Cloud Compute when additional processing power is required. This architecture is designed to deliver advanced AI capabilities while keeping user data private and secure.
Early testing has shown the assistant can summarise conversations, organise schedules, locate photos, understand visual content and answer knowledge-based questions without requiring separate web searches. As with most beta software, Apple notes that some responses may still be inaccurate as the company continues refining the experience.
With more than 2.5 billion active Apple devices worldwide, the iOS 27 Public Beta marks Apple’s largest real-world AI test to date and underscores the company’s ambition to compete more aggressively in the rapidly evolving AI assistant market.
