Meta is continuing to strengthen Threads as a real-time conversation platform with a significant expansion of its Live Chats feature, introducing new capabilities focused on accessibility, moderation, and community engagement. The latest update reflects the company’s broader strategy to transform Threads into a destination for live discussions and meaningful online interactions while competing more directly with other real-time social platforms. As user participation continues to grow, the new features are designed to create a more inclusive, organized, and engaging experience for creators, community leaders, and everyday users participating in live conversations.

One of the most notable additions is built-in translation support for Live Chats, enabling users from different countries and language backgrounds to communicate more effectively in real time. By reducing language barriers, the feature makes global discussions more accessible and encourages broader participation across diverse communities. Meta has also expanded access to Live Chat creation by allowing all Community Champions—highly active users recognized for driving engagement and meaningful conversations—to host their own live discussions. This move empowers more creators and community leaders to facilitate conversations around topics that matter most to their audiences while encouraging stronger community building on the platform.

To improve the management of live conversations, Threads has introduced a range of new moderation and hosting tools. Hosts can now invite up to three co-hosts to help facilitate discussions, manage participants, and keep conversations organized, making it easier to support larger and more active communities. In addition, hosts now have the ability to delete messages for all participants, providing stronger moderation controls that help maintain respectful and productive discussions. Meta is also testing visual enhancements that make host messages more prominent within chats, ensuring important updates, announcements, and discussion points remain visible during fast-moving conversations.

These updates build on Threads’ ongoing evolution since its launch. While the platform initially entered the market with limited real-time functionality, it has steadily expanded its capabilities by introducing chronological feeds, improved search, hashtags, direct messaging, desktop messaging, and other community-focused features. Live Chats have now become a central part of that strategy, with hundreds of chats reportedly hosted every day and thousands of users actively participating. Each Live Chat supports text, photos, videos, links, emoji reactions, and interactive polls, while allowing up to 150 users to actively contribute messages and additional participants to join in spectator mode, creating dynamic and highly interactive conversations.

Meta has also confirmed that additional enhancements, including desktop support for Live Chats and pinned messages, are already on its development roadmap as it continues investing in engagement tools across Threads. These updates come as the platform surpasses 500 million monthly active users, highlighting its rapid growth and increasing relevance within the global social media landscape. By combining multilingual accessibility, improved moderation, expanded creator tools, and richer real-time interactions, Threads is positioning itself as a more collaborative, community-driven platform capable of supporting meaningful digital conversations at scale while strengthening its role in the future of social networking.
