Women for Women International has officially appointed Thelma Ekiyor as its new Global Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s mission to empower women affected by conflict and crisis globally. With 25 years of international development experience, Ms. Ekiyor brings a transformative vision rooted in economic empowerment, social innovation, and impactful leadership. Her career, defined by a steadfast commitment to advancing women’s rights and financial inclusion, positions her to lead the organization into a new era of global impact and strategic growth.

Her appointment was praised by Women for Women International’s Board Chair, Nunu Ntshingila, who highlighted Ms. Ekiyor’s exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to women’s advancement. The selection followed a comprehensive global search process, reflecting her unmatched expertise and influence in building sustainable solutions for women’s economic participation. The organization also expressed deep appreciation for Marie Clarke, who has served diligently as Acting CEO, providing stability and direction during the transition period.

Ms. Ekiyor’s career spans leadership roles in philanthropy, impact investing, and social enterprise, including chairing the Nigeria Office for Philanthropy and Impact Investing under the Office of the Vice President, co-founding SME.NG – Nigeria’s largest women-focused business accelerator – and leading Afrigrants to provide financing for women’s micro-businesses. Her work has not only mobilized resources but built powerful coalitions across the private sector, government, and civil society to drive long-term, inclusive development.

Her strategic influence extends globally, having served on international advisory boards and co-founding Women in Philanthropy & Impact (WIPIA). Now based in the UK and representing a strong African leadership presence on the global stage, Ms. Ekiyor embodies the organization’s mission to invest in women as agents of change for their families, communities, and nations.
