Akwa Ibom State is positioning itself as a leading hub for agricultural innovation with the launch of the Nigeria Climate-Smart Village Programme (CSV-P), a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing food security, boosting economic growth, and promoting environmental sustainability. Spearheaded by AgroGreen Dynamics in partnership with the Federation of Agricultural Commodity Associations of Nigeria (FACAN) and the Nigeria Agribusiness and Agro-Industry Development Initiative (NAADI), this programme reflects a bold step toward creating a resilient and future-ready agricultural sector in the country.

The CSV-P model integrates science, technology, and community participation to regenerate farmlands, increase productivity, and improve livelihoods across rural communities. According to AgroGreen’s Director of Operations, the initiative proves that sustainable agriculture is not only achievable but also scalable and profitable, offering measurable results that directly contribute to national and global environmental goals. This strategic approach promotes the adoption of renewable agricultural practices and positions Nigeria as a major contributor to global emission-reduction efforts.

A standout feature of the programme is its digital monitoring, reporting, and verification dashboard, which supports cooperative governance and generates data that qualifies for carbon credit markets and international climate financing. This innovation ensures transparency, accountability, and long-term financial sustainability while empowering farmers to participate in the global green economy. It also lays the groundwork for technological integration in agriculture, transforming farming into a data-driven enterprise.

With a target to develop 250 Climate-Smart Villages across 25,000 hectares by 2030, AgroGreen aims to create 50,000 new green jobs while enabling Nigeria to meet both its food production and environmental sustainability targets. This large-scale rollout signifies a national commitment to agricultural transformation that supports global supply chains and local community development.

This programme is poised to elevate Nigeria’s agricultural sector by turning farmlands into engines of economic growth, climate action, and social empowerment. It underscores a shared vision to build farms that restore the environment, uplift rural populations, and meet market demands both locally and internationally.
