AltSchool Africa, one of the continent’s leading edtech platforms, has announced the launch of its new Nano-Diploma, a flexible learning programme designed to give learners greater control over their learning pace. The initiative comes in direct response to feedback from students who felt the platform’s traditional 12-month diploma programmes did not deliver the level of flexibility initially promised. The launch marks a significant step in AltSchool’s mission to make high-quality, accessible education available to diverse learners across Africa.

According to Co-founder and CEO Adewale Yusuf, the Nano-Diploma was created to cater to students—especially working professionals—who struggled to keep up with the demanding 20-hour-per-week schedule of the standard diploma. Yusuf acknowledged that as AltSchool expanded and pursued global accreditation, it became less flexible, but the company has since re-evaluated its approach. “We heard the feedback and had to adapt. The Nano-Diploma gives learners the chance to study at their own pace without losing the quality of education we promised,” he said during the announcement at AltSchool’s Lagos office.

The programme, which costs ₦45,000 ($30.21), maintains the same academic quality and employability focus as the full diploma but offers shorter, more accessible modules. AltSchool Africa’s Head of Innovation and New Markets, Rachael Onoja, noted that the team reviewed its grading system and course structure to ensure the Nano-Diploma meets learners’ evolving needs. She emphasized that the new offering allows professionals to immediately apply newly acquired skills to their jobs, creating measurable career impact even before course completion.

From a technological standpoint, the Nano-Diploma also removes previous barriers to entry. Emmanuel Ogunsola, Head of Product and Engineering at AltSchool, explained that learners can now start their courses instantly through any web browser—no complex setups or prerequisites required. In addition, the programme will soon be available in Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa, making it more inclusive and accessible to learners beyond major urban centers. The company also plans to partner with organizations to provide scholarships that make the programme even more affordable.

AltSchool Africa’s latest move highlights its commitment to listening to learners and adapting its model to meet real-world challenges. With the Nano-Diploma, the company is not only democratizing access to education but also positioning itself as a key driver in Africa’s digital learning evolution. By offering affordable, flexible, and career-relevant learning experiences, AltSchool continues to redefine what education can look like for the modern African learner—accessible, inclusive, and empowering.
