Rwanda’s Ministry of ICT and Innovation has entered into a new partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to strengthen digital skills development and accelerate SME digitization. Signed in Kigali, this agreement represents a vital step in Rwanda’s mission to harness technology as a driver of inclusive growth and sustainable development.

At the heart of this collaboration is support for the One Million Coders (OMC) initiative, a national program aimed at reducing the gender gap in Rwanda’s tech ecosystem. By prioritizing training and opportunities for women and girls, the partnership seeks to ensure greater representation and participation in the country’s growing ICT industry.

The initiative goes beyond gender inclusion, with both partners committed to fostering digital empowerment for people with disabilities. By enhancing accessibility and creating inclusive pathways, the programme aims to ensure no one is left behind in Rwanda’s digital transformation journey.

This collaboration is also expected to catalyze job creation, improve the competitiveness of SMEs, and provide a strong foundation for young innovators to thrive in the digital economy. It reflects a forward-looking strategy where technology is leveraged not only for economic growth but also for social equity.

Building on a successful partnership initiated in 2023, this renewed alliance demonstrates a sustained commitment to digital literacy and inclusive employment opportunities. The continuity of efforts highlights the value of long-term collaborations in shaping Rwanda’s tech-driven future.
By focusing on inclusivity, innovation, and empowerment, this partnership positions Rwanda as a model for how digital transformation can create a more equitable and prosperous society.
