Ethio telecom and Ericsson have commemorated 132 years of collaboration, highlighting a partnership that dates back to 1894, when the first telephone apparatus was introduced in Ethiopia.

The milestone was marked at a ceremony attended by Ethio telecom Interim CEO Tariku Demissie and an Ericsson delegation led by Patrick Johansson, President and Head of Ericsson Europe, Middle East and Africa. The celebration also coincided with Ericsson’s 150th global anniversary.

During a high-level meeting, the companies reviewed progress on mobile network modernisation initiatives under an agreement signed at Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2026. The projects include network expansion and renewable off-grid energy solutions to connect underserved rural base stations.

Both companies also agreed to strengthen collaboration in next-generation network technologies, including network automation, artificial intelligence-powered digital infrastructure and end-to-end network enhancements to improve service quality and customer experience.

Johansson reaffirmed Ericsson’s commitment to the partnership, pledging continued support for Ethiopia’s digital transformation and digital infrastructure development.
