The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to formalise their collaboration on data protection awareness and privacy in Nigeria.
The agreement was signed by NDPC National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer Vincent Olatunji and NOA Director-General Lanre Onilu. It establishes a framework for joint initiatives focused on improving public understanding of data protection and privacy.
The partnership will include capacity building and training for NOA personnel, coordinated public awareness campaigns and the development of an action plan to expand data protection messaging across traditional and digital media.
NDPC said the collaboration will leverage NOA’s nationwide reach to improve citizens’ understanding of their data protection rights and encourage compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act) 2023.
The MoU will also provide guidance on applying the NDP Act to NOA’s mandate and establish a framework for both institutions to promote data protection and privacy awareness across Nigeria.
