MTN Ghana has received a notice of award from Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) for additional spectrum in the 700 MHz and 3 GHz bands, supporting the company’s plans to expand 5G and mobile broadband services across the country.

The spectrum licences will run for 15 years. Under the award, MTN Ghana will receive two 20 MHz lots in the 700 MHz band, while the 3 GHz allocation includes 1 x 150 MHz.

The licence fees are valued at approximately $100.9 million for the 700 MHz spectrum and $101.1 million for the 3 GHz spectrum. MTN Ghana is currently completing the required formalities and payment obligations to finalise the acquisition.

Once the licences are issued, MTN Ghana plans to combine the additional spectrum with its existing holdings to increase network capacity, improve service quality and enhance the customer experience.

The new spectrum is also expected to support the expansion of 5G mobility and MTN Ghana’s plans to connect more homes to high-speed broadband services. The announcement comes as the company marks 30 years of operations in Ghana.
