NEC Africa is expanding its presence in Uganda through new ISP partnerships, infrastructure deployments and growing opportunities in enterprise cybersecurity.
The company recently secured a $75,000 contract with Savannah Uganda, an emerging internet service provider expanding 4G connectivity across Kampala and surrounding areas. The deployment uses Juniper MX304 routing technology to support high-capacity network performance as Savannah Uganda grows its subscriber base and regional footprint.
Savannah Uganda currently serves approximately 50,000 users and is working towards broader expansion across East Africa, with NEC Africa supporting its network infrastructure requirements.
NEC Africa Key Account Manager Geoffrey Karanja said Uganda remains an important market for the company, with growing activity across internet service providers and enterprise connectivity.
Beyond the ISP segment, NEC Africa is also engaging with Uganda’s enterprise and financial services sectors as regulatory requirements around data security evolve. New requirements from the Bank of Uganda require encryption systems and security infrastructure to remain hosted within the country.
The regulatory shift is creating demand for hardware security modules and advanced encryption technologies to help financial institutions protect sensitive data and meet compliance requirements. NEC Africa is positioning its Utimaco security solution to support these needs.
Additional opportunities are emerging across Uganda’s ISP market, including Airtel Uganda, Robtelcom, Sprint and new entrants such as Revia.
NEC Africa currently manages its Ugandan activities through its East African hub in Nairobi while evaluating the potential for a direct local presence as the market develops.
