HPE has announced an expanded collaboration with Oracle to support the continued expansion of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s global AI infrastructure through the deployment of HPE Juniper Networking across Oracle’s AI data centres.

The collaboration builds on more than a decade of engineering work between Oracle and Juniper Networks and expands the relationship to include networking support services and financing capabilities.

HPE Juniper Networking routing and switching platforms already support key elements of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s data centre and edge networks. As Oracle scales its AI superclusters, the networking infrastructure will play an increasingly important role in managing the bandwidth, latency, congestion and availability demands created by large GPU environments.

Under the expanded collaboration, Oracle could deploy HPE Juniper Networking PTX and MX routing platforms alongside QFX and EX switching platforms across its global data centres over multiple years. The agreement also includes multi-year networking support services.

The latest QFX switches are designed to provide the high-density connectivity, dynamic load balancing and congestion management required for large RoCEv2 AI backend networks. A common networking foundation across AI clusters, regional data centres and edge environments is expected to simplify engineering and operations while allowing each environment to be optimised for its specific requirements.

HPE and Oracle are also collaborating on intelligent telemetry to provide deeper visibility into network device and fabric behaviour. The technology can help identify issues such as queue buildup, packet loss, traffic imbalances and component degradation earlier, enabling faster resolution and helping minimise disruptions to GPU utilisation and network availability.

HPE said the expanded collaboration positions its networking portfolio to support Oracle’s AI infrastructure requirements as the company continues to scale its cloud operations globally.

As part of the agreement, HPE has also issued Oracle warrants to purchase shares of HPE common stock.
