MTN Uganda Graduates 503 Young People Through Digital Skilling Initiative
MTN Uganda has graduated 503 young people under its MTN Ace digital skilling initiative, equipping participants with practical technology skills to support their participation in Uganda’s growing digital economy.
The graduates were recognised during a ceremony held at the National ICT Innovation Hub after completing a hybrid learning programme covering information and communication technology, digital marketing, e-commerce, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
The programme is designed to go beyond certification by equipping young people with practical skills that can help them create business opportunities, develop innovative solutions and address challenges within their communities.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Dr. William Egaddu, Chairman of the MTN Uganda Foundation Board, highlighted the importance of combining connectivity with knowledge, confidence and practical skills to unlock opportunities for young people.
He said access to digital connectivity alone is not enough to unlock the potential of Uganda’s youth, emphasising the need for skills that enable young people to transform digital opportunities into meaningful value.
Egaddu also disclosed that MTN Uganda channelled UGX 5.1 billion through the MTN Foundation in 2025, positively impacting more than 60,000 people across the country.
The Chief Guest, Amos Mpungu, Principal IT Officer at Uganda’s Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, encouraged the graduates to apply their skills beyond obtaining certificates.
He urged the young people to use their knowledge to develop businesses, ideas and innovations that can contribute to Uganda’s broader economic ambitions, including the country’s goal of building a $500 billion economy by 2040.
With the addition of the 2026 cohort, the MTN Ace initiative has now empowered a total of 1,191 young people with practical digital skills.
The programme reflects the growing importance of digital skills development as Uganda seeks to prepare young people for opportunities created by technology, entrepreneurship and the expanding digital economy.
Through initiatives such as MTN Ace, young people are being encouraged to move beyond technology consumption and develop the skills needed to create solutions, build businesses and participate more actively in the country’s digital transformation.
MTN Uganda said the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to investing in young people and supporting the development of a more inclusive digital future for Uganda.
