Egypt is advancing the development of its Government Services Card as authorities work to accelerate digital transformation and improve access to public services.
Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy reviewed the latest technical and operational developments of the system, including integration and data-sharing mechanisms among participating government entities.
The Government Services Card is designed to provide citizens with access to multiple government services through a single secure digital channel. The system aims to simplify procedures, reduce the time and effort required to access services and improve the overall citizen experience.
The ministers also discussed the use of digital infrastructure and government databases to improve operational efficiency and the quality of services delivered to citizens.
Farouk said the system could support the Ministry of Supply’s efforts to modernise the food subsidy system through digital tools. Integrating databases and technological infrastructure is expected to improve the accuracy and efficiency of subsidy delivery while making it easier for beneficiaries to access their entitlements.
The Ministry of Supply is working with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and other government entities to establish the technical and operational framework for food subsidy services delivered through the card. Additional subsidised services could be introduced as implementation progresses.
Hendy said the Government Services Card forms part of wider efforts to establish an integrated digital government services ecosystem, with coordination among participating entities and effective use of digital infrastructure remaining key priorities.
The two ministries agreed to maintain technical and operational coordination as implementation continues, focusing on database integration, operational efficiency and the gradual expansion of services available through the Government Services Card.
