MTN Group has reaffirmed the importance of expanding economic opportunity, strengthening regional integration and investing in digital connectivity as key drivers of Africa’s long-term prosperity during the Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation (KMF) Winter Seminar.

Speaking at the seminar, MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita said Africa’s future would be shaped less by migration itself and more by the continent’s ability to create inclusive economic opportunities that enable people to thrive where they live while benefiting from greater regional integration.

Addressing leaders from government, business, academia, the diplomatic community and civil society, Mupita noted that migration should be viewed within the broader context of economic development. He argued that uneven access to opportunity remains one of the primary factors influencing migration and called for greater investment in skills development, infrastructure, financial inclusion, markets and strong institutions to unlock Africa’s demographic potential.

Mupita also highlighted the growing role of digital infrastructure in supporting economic participation, noting that connectivity enables access to education, entrepreneurship, financial services, public services and new markets. He said digital technologies have become essential tools for promoting inclusive growth and expanding opportunities across the continent.

As a sponsor of the 2026 KMF Winter Seminar, MTN Group said it remains committed to supporting platforms that foster constructive dialogue and collaboration on issues shaping Africa’s future. The company believes that bringing together diverse perspectives is essential to developing practical solutions that promote sustainable economic growth, regional cooperation and shared prosperity.
