Raxio Group Surpasses US$380 Million in Committed Capital to Accelerate Africa’s Data Centre Expansion
Raxio Group has announced that it has surpassed US$380 million in committed capital as shareholders Meridiam and Roha increase their support for the company’s next phase of growth.
The additional investment comes as Raxio experiences rapid expansion in demand for digital infrastructure across Africa, driven by increased cloud adoption, digital transformation initiatives and the emergence of advanced technologies including artificial intelligence workloads.
The company said the new capital position strengthens its ability to expand its data centre footprint, increase capacity and support organisations requiring secure, reliable and scalable infrastructure across the continent.
Expanding Africa’s Largest Data Centre Footprint
Raxio Group has established what it describes as the continent’s widest data centre footprint, with facilities currently operating in Uganda, Ethiopia, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire and Angola.
The company is also developing plans for further expansion into Tanzania as part of its broader strategy to increase access to world-class digital infrastructure across African markets.
All Raxio facilities are Tier III certified, demonstrating high levels of reliability and operational resilience. The company’s data centres are also carrier-neutral, allowing customers to connect with multiple network providers and build flexible connectivity solutions based on their operational needs.
By expanding its regional presence, Raxio aims to provide businesses, cloud providers, telecommunications companies and technology organisations with dependable infrastructure to support Africa’s growing digital economy.
Rapid Growth in Contracted Capacity
Raxio reported significant growth in demand during the first half of 2026, with contracted capacity increasing sixfold compared to the same period in the previous year.
The company attributed this growth to accelerating demand for high-quality data centre infrastructure as organisations across Africa continue migrating workloads to cloud platforms and adopting more data-intensive technologies.
“Demand for high-quality data centre infrastructure continues to accelerate across Africa, driven by rapid digital adoption, cloud migration and the emergence of significant AI workloads,” said Robert Skjodt, Chief Executive Officer of Raxio Group.
He added that the additional capital will strengthen Raxio’s ability to capture new opportunities and continue delivering world-class, carrier-neutral infrastructure for customers.
Supporting Africa’s Digital Infrastructure Growth
Africa’s digital infrastructure sector is entering a period of accelerated growth, with increasing demand for data storage, processing power and connectivity solutions.
According to industry projections, installed data centre capacity across Africa is expected to grow significantly by 2030, creating new opportunities throughout the digital infrastructure value chain.
Raxio’s continued investment aligns with this market shift as businesses increasingly require infrastructure capable of supporting emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and large-scale digital services.
Strengthening Financial Support for Expansion
The latest shareholder support builds on Raxio’s existing capital base, which previously stood at US$350 million.
The company has also secured additional financing support, including a US$100 million financing package from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group, alongside debt funding from Proparco and the Emerging Africa & Asia Infrastructure Fund (EAAIF).
These investments have enabled Raxio to accelerate construction, expand operations and strengthen its ability to meet rising demand for data centre capacity across African markets.
Preparing for Larger Infrastructure Requirements
As the digital infrastructure market evolves, Raxio is seeing increased demand for larger deployments requiring 10 megawatts or more of capacity, representing a significant shift from previous project requirements.
The company is responding by increasing rack densities and evaluating infrastructure designs capable of supporting higher-performance computing environments and AI workloads.
Raxio is also assessing additional expansion opportunities across the continent as it continues its mission to build a connected, resilient and scalable digital infrastructure ecosystem for Africa.
With growing investment, expanding capacity and increasing demand for advanced computing resources, Raxio Group is positioning itself as a key player in Africa’s digital infrastructure transformation.
The company’s latest capital commitments highlight the growing importance of data centres in enabling the next generation of digital services, innovation and economic growth across the continent.
