The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) is taking another significant step toward strengthening the country’s innovation ecosystem through the launch of a seven-day Improve Your Business (IYB) training programme. Designed to empower local innovators beyond the product development stage, the initiative reflects a growing recognition that innovation alone is not enough—successful commercialization requires strong business foundations, strategic planning, and market readiness. By investing in entrepreneurial capacity, POTRAZ is helping innovators transform promising ideas into sustainable businesses capable of driving economic growth and job creation.
The programme brings together 20 innovators who recently showcased their solutions during the Innovation Product Launch and Business Forum. As part of POTRAZ’s broader Innovation Drive, the training aims to bridge the gap between innovation and commercial success by equipping participants with practical business knowledge. Hosted at Chinhoyi Caves Motel, the initiative demonstrates POTRAZ’s commitment to ensuring that Zimbabwe’s innovators are not only developing groundbreaking technologies but are also prepared to navigate the realities of building and scaling successful enterprises in competitive markets.
Throughout the seven-day programme, participants will receive hands-on training in critical areas that determine long-term business success. These include business sustainability, customer engagement, market readiness, costing strategies, regulatory compliance, investment readiness, and commercialization. By strengthening these core competencies, innovators will be better positioned to refine their business models, improve operational efficiency, develop stronger go-to-market strategies, and increase their ability to attract investors and strategic partners. The programme emphasizes that sustainable innovation is built on both technical excellence and sound business execution.
The initiative also highlights the growing importance of supporting innovators throughout their entrepreneurial journey rather than focusing solely on product creation. Many startups face significant challenges after launching innovative solutions, including limited business expertise, funding constraints, and difficulties accessing markets. POTRAZ’s Improve Your Business programme directly addresses these barriers by providing participants with practical skills, mentorship, and strategic guidance that can help transform early-stage innovations into commercially viable ventures capable of creating lasting economic and social impact across Zimbabwe.
As Zimbabwe continues to strengthen its digital economy and entrepreneurial landscape, initiatives such as POTRAZ’s Innovation Drive are playing a vital role in nurturing the next generation of innovators and technology-driven businesses. By combining innovation support with enterprise development, the regulator is helping create an ecosystem where locally developed solutions have greater opportunities to scale, attract investment, and compete both regionally and internationally. The programme reinforces the importance of building resilient, investment-ready businesses that can contribute to national development, technological advancement, and the growth of Zimbabwe’s innovation economy.
