Microsoft has announced the return of Xbox Game Camp Africa for its third year, marking another significant milestone in the growth of Africa’s gaming ecosystem. The 12-week program will officially kick off on December 4, 2025, in Cape Town, South Africa, during Africa Games Week. This initiative is designed to empower African game developers by equipping them with the tools, mentorship, and exposure needed to take their ideas from concept to reality.

The program is being organized in partnership with ID\@Xbox’s Developer Acceleration Program (DAP), further underlining Microsoft’s commitment to creating opportunities for diverse creators in emerging markets. Over the course of the program, participating studios from across Africa will receive hands-on mentorship and guidance from Team Xbox, helping them refine their ideas and develop working prototypes or vertical slices that can potentially reach global audiences.

Since its launch, Xbox Game Camp Africa has attracted more than 1,900 aspiring and professional game creators from across the continent. Beyond skill-building, the program provides a global stage for African talent to showcase their creativity, tell authentic stories, and forge meaningful connections within the international gaming industry. This visibility has been a game-changer for many developers, opening doors to opportunities that extend beyond the continent.

One standout success story is Kunta Content, a Kenyan game studio whose debut title, Hiru, was born from their participation in earlier Game Camps. The studio recently unveiled a trailer for the game, highlighting immersive and diverse environments inspired by Africa’s landscapes—from the beauty of the Masai Mara to the mysteries of the Congo and the starkness of the desert. This project reflects how the program not only nurtures technical skills but also encourages creators to draw from Africa’s rich cultural heritage.

Dean Gichukie, CEO and Game Producer at Kunta Content, credited Xbox Game Camp with providing the inspiration and foundation for their journey. He noted that the support from Xbox has been instrumental in allowing the studio to bring Africa to life through gaming in ways never seen before. The success of Kunta Content demonstrates the transformative potential of initiatives like Game Camp in shaping Africa’s creative industries.

By continuing to invest in Xbox Game Camp Africa, Microsoft is underscoring its belief in the continent’s potential to become a hub for gaming innovation. The initiative not only fosters the growth of local studios but also plays a vital role in positioning Africa as a player in the global gaming economy. With each edition, the program continues to highlight the extraordinary talent and untapped opportunities within the African gaming community.
