Zamtel has reaffirmed its commitment as a key enabler of digital education in Zambia by sponsoring the EdTech & AI Indaba 2025, a gathering that brought together industry leaders, innovators, and educators to explore the transformative role of technology in shaping the future of learning. The event highlighted the urgent need to leverage digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and innovative tools to drive inclusive education across the country.

At the heart of its participation, Zamtel emphasized its ongoing investments in digital infrastructure, particularly the nationwide upgrade of its 4G and 5G network. The initiative covers 1,200 sites across Zambia, with 160 already live and 600 expected to be completed by December 2025. This large-scale upgrade is strategically designed to provide faster and more reliable connectivity, ensuring that schools, educators, and students across urban and rural areas have access to modern digital learning platforms.

In addition to strengthening connectivity, Zamtel is also playing an active role in making education more accessible and inclusive. Through its mobile money platform, Zamtel Money, the company is enabling affordable digital payments for e-learning platforms, tools, and services. This approach provides a practical solution to one of the key barriers in education: affordability. By integrating financial services with digital education, Zamtel is expanding opportunities for learners from all backgrounds.

The EdTech & AI Indaba was graced by Hon. Douglas Syakalima, Minister of Education, and Hon. Felix Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science, alongside a broad range of stakeholders from the education and technology ecosystem. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration between government, private sector, and innovators in building an education system that is future-ready and capable of preparing Zambia’s youth for a digital-first economy.

Zamtel’s initiatives form part of a broader strategy to create a robust digital backbone for education. By integrating network upgrades, financial technology, and strategic partnerships, the company is ensuring that Zambia’s education sector is not left behind in the digital revolution. This holistic approach reflects Zamtel’s vision to empower students and educators with the tools they need to learn, grow, and thrive in an increasingly digital world.

As Zambia continues its journey toward digital transformation, Zamtel’s efforts serve as a reminder of the critical role telecommunications companies play in bridging gaps, fostering inclusion, and laying the foundation for future innovation. The company’s dual focus on connectivity and accessibility highlights a forward-looking model that other markets across Africa can learn from as they work to strengthen their own education systems.
