Vodacom, Huawei Launch DigiTruck Initiative in Tanzania

Vodacom and Huawei have launched the DigiTruck in Tanzania, a groundbreaking initiative designed to bridge the digital divide and enhance digital literacy across the country. This mobile classroom aims to provide essential digital skills training to over 5,500 individuals annually, including students, women, the elderly, and youth, across ten regions.

Philip Besiimire, CEO and Managing Director of Vodacom Tanzania, emphasized the significance of this partnership with Huawei in delivering critical digital education. The DigiTruck is set to empower Tanzanians of all ages and backgrounds, ensuring that they can thrive in today’s connected economy.

The DigiTruck’s mission is to bring digital skills to underserved communities, allowing individuals to access and benefit from the digital world. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of making digital inclusion a reality for all.

The launch event was graced by notable figures including Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Doto Biteko and ICT Minister Jerry Silaa, who witnessed the unveiling of the mobile school. The presence of Chen Mingjian, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Tanzania, and Justice Thomas Mihayo, Chairman of the Vodacom Tanzania Board, highlighted the significance of this collaboration.

The DigiTruck, a solar-powered mobile classroom made from a repurposed shipping container, is equipped with laptops, smartphones, and 4G internet. This innovative setup will provide free digital skills training, particularly targeting rural and underserved areas.

Through this initiative, Vodacom and Huawei are making significant strides toward digital inclusion, ensuring that every Tanzanian has the opportunity to engage with and benefit from the digital economy.
