KenGen to Boost Seven Forks with 42.5MW Green Energy

KenGen announces a transformative step towards sustainable energy with plans to install a 42.5MW solar power plant at Seven Forks dams, enhancing Kenya’s green energy capacity.

Partnering with the French Development Agency (AFD), the project aims to bolster renewable energy deployment over a two-year and four-month period, supporting Kenya’s energy resilience amid climate challenges.

Energy Principal Secretary, Alex Wachira, underscores the project’s significance in expanding clean energy access and mitigating the impact of rising power costs for Kenyans.

Highlighting bilateral cooperation, Wachira emphasizes Kenya’s enduring partnership with France in advancing energy infrastructure and fostering community development through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Bertrand Willocquet, AFD Country Director, notes the strategic role of the solar plant in complementing hydroelectricity, optimizing water use, and reinforcing Kenya’s commitment to combating climate change.

KenGen Managing Director and CEO, Peter Njenga, affirms their commitment to scaling up renewable energy capacity. The partnership with AFD marks a pivotal milestone towards achieving Kenya’s green energy targets, advancing sustainable development.
