Huawei Africa Connect 2024 Unveils new Sub-Saharan Tech

Huawei Africa Connect 2024 kicked off this week at the Sandton Convention Centre, marking a new era for the enterprise-focused annual event. Formerly known as Huawei Eco Connect, this year’s edition underscores Huawei’s commitment to Sub-Saharan Africa, showcasing innovative solutions tailored for the region.

David Wang, executive director of the board and chairman of the ICT Infrastructure Managing Board for Huawei, opened the event by highlighting the significant investments Huawei has made in R&D over the past decade. “We have invested 156 billion US dollars in R&D over the last decade. This ongoing investment has helped us lead the industry,” Wang said.

Hover Gao, president of Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasized the continent’s potential, praising Africa’s young population, burgeoning cities, and bold innovations. He noted the unprecedented opportunity for Africa to reshape its future through digital transformation.

The event focused on the intelligent digital era’s impact on various sectors, including finance, transportation, manufacturing, internet service provision, and SMEs. Huawei experts detailed how their products and services will contribute to this transformation, providing tailored ICT infrastructure solutions to meet diverse business needs.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi returned to this year’s celebration, commending Huawei for holding its annual event in Gauteng. “We are proud as Gauteng to be the host province and to provide all the necessary support needed to ensure that we continue to succeed in our relationship and build a lasting partnership,” he stated.

Lesufi expressed his government’s commitment to embracing innovation, seeking more solutions to reduce crime in economic hubs like Johannesburg. This collaboration between Huawei and local governments signifies a step forward in leveraging technology for societal benefits.
