IFC, Proparco, RMB Partner with WIOCC for Digital Expansion

The WIOCC Group has secured a substantial finance package from IFC, Proparco, and Rand Merchant Bank to advance its expansion strategy across the continent. This initiative aims to bolster digital connectivity and infrastructure in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, and South Africa, addressing the rising demand for colocation and data centre services.

IFC and Proparco, key financial backers, have extended loans totaling $41 million to WIOCC Group, with an additional $10 million soon to be secured from Rand Merchant Bank. This funding will enable WIOCC to enhance its core and edge data centres, expand its fibre networks, and promote economic growth by bridging Africa’s digital divide.

The financing structure includes sustainability-linked debt, tying WIOCC’s pricing to commitments on energy efficiency improvements in its data centres and achieving EDGE green building certification. This underscores WIOCC’s dedication to environmentally sustainable practices and innovation in digital infrastructure across Africa.

Chris Wood, CEO of WIOCC Group, expressed enthusiasm about the capital raise, highlighting its pivotal role in expanding open-access data centres and hyper-scale connectivity. He emphasized WIOCC’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure investment, ensuring readiness to meet the evolving needs of clients and customers throughout the region.

Founded in 2007, WIOCC has been instrumental in developing Africa’s digital backbone, providing critical infrastructure to meet the continent’s growing connectivity demands.
