Acer, the PC technology company headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan, has announced plans to begin manufacturing monitors in South Africa. This initiative, set to commence next month, aims to create jobs and boost local communities.

Glenn Du Toit, Acer Africa’s country manager, emphasized the importance of improving access to technology in today’s digital landscape. He stated, “As laptop computers become more compact and affordable, monitors play a crucial role in providing users with larger, better quality, and healthier viewing experiences at home or in the office.”

Du Toit highlighted the benefits of quality monitor displays in reducing eye strain and fatigue, noting the variability in monitor standards available in the market.

The monitors will be assembled in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, where Acer has established its production plant. This new venture will employ 27 new employees initially, with potential for further growth.

Acer’s consumer displays, including 24-inch and 27-inch 100Hz IPS monitors, are expected to be available from August 2024 as part of the local product launch timeline.

Following the consumer launch, Acer plans to roll out commercial monitors in September 2024, targeting businesses with a range of products tailored to meet their needs.

Gaming monitors will be the final phase of Acer’s local assembly plans, featuring 27-inch 180Hz monitors, catering to the growing gaming community in South Africa.
