TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya (TMK) has significantly expanded its electric vehicle (EV) charging network, setting up 13 charging sites in partnership with leading e-mobility firms Ampersand, Roam, and Arc Ride. This strategic move highlights TMK’s commitment to promoting clean transport and sustainability.

In 2023, TMK raised its number of EV charging sites from three in 2022 to 13, leveraging its extensive network of service stations. These sites provide convenient access to battery charging and swapping points for electric motorbike customers, fostering the growth of e-mobility in Kenya.

Ampersand and Arc Ride, known for their e-motorcycle fleets and battery swapping networks, have joined forces with TMK to cater to the increasing population of EVs. The number of registered electric vehicles and motorcycles in Kenya surged from 475 units in 2022 to 2,694 in 2023, reflecting a growing shift towards clean mobility.

Roam, a Swedish-Kenyan EV startup, has also partnered with TMK and Quickmart to enhance their location presence. Roam’s charging points at Lusaka Road, Waiyaki Way, and Outering Road, with upcoming sites in Dagoreti and South C, are part of a broader effort to support the EV ecosystem in Kenya.

TotalEnergies launched its first EV charging point at the Gigiri service station, joining other firms like Kenya Power in developing charging infrastructure. Despite challenges in investment and the current scarcity of charging stations, TMK’s expansion efforts mark a significant step towards a greener transport system.

TMK’s initiative underscores the importance of collaboration and infrastructure development in achieving sustainable transport solutions. As more corporations and individuals embrace electric mobility, TMK’s expanded network will play a crucial role in Kenya’s transition to clean energy.
