4Di Capital, an early-stage technology venture capital fund manager based in Cape Town, South Africa, focuses on the Southern and Eastern Africa regions. Founded in 2009 by entrepreneurs with hands-on company-building experience, 4Di is a well-respected name in local venture capital. The firm has invested in South African companies like Snapt, LifeQ, and Zoona, and expanded to East Africa with investments in Kenyan companies Wasoko and Flare.
Starting with its first angel fund in 2011, 4Di launched its first venture fund in 2016, followed by a second in 2019, anchored by the SA SME Fund. Justin Stanford, co-founding general partner, emphasized their role as early-stage supporters and advisors to entrepreneurs. The second fund, nearing its end, has made 10 investments with possibly one or two more to come.
Stanford mentioned the potential of raising a new venture fund soon, acknowledging the global funding challenges but noting improved market conditions. He highlighted their strategy to explore overseas fundraising due to growing interest in the African venture model. 4Di’s strong track record with successful companies from their 2016 and 2019 funds is expected to attract potential investors.
