Huawei Kenya has officially launched its Management Trainee Program, targeting university students across Kenya for jobs and internships. This initiative aims to provide about 30 job and internship opportunities, offering advanced ICT training to Kenyan youth. The Huawei Management Trainee Program (HMTP), an annual global flagship initiative, has already trained 200 graduates and absorbed 133 since its inception in Kenya in 2018.
Fang Zheng, Human Resources Director of Huawei Kenya, emphasized the company’s commitment to tapping top talent from Kenyan universities to enhance its talent pool. “Improving the digital skills of Kenyan youth is crucial for preparing them for future jobs,” Zheng stated. He further highlighted Huawei’s dedication to investing in local ICT talent through employment, internships, and training programs, supporting the government’s digital economy goals.
The HMTP will offer a four-month internship consisting of one month of group learning about Huawei products and processes, followed by three months of practical work across various departments. This structure is designed to provide hands-on experience and equip university graduates with essential ICT skills. Successful trainees may be offered employment opportunities at the end of the training period.
At the program launch at the University of Nairobi, Paul Mungai, Director of Education at the Ministry of Education – State Department for Higher Education and Research, praised Huawei’s efforts in expanding the ICT space in Kenya. “With programs such as the Huawei ICT Academy, ICT Competition, Cybersecurity Boot-camps, and the Huawei Management Trainee Program, the local ICT talent and broader ecosystem will be significantly boosted,” Mungai said.
Huawei’s ongoing initiatives, including the HMTP, are part of its broader strategy to support and develop the ICT sector in Kenya. These efforts align with the company’s vision of nurturing local talent and fostering innovation within the digital economy.
