Novozymes Completes Merger With Chr. Hansen for Biosolutions in East Africa

Danish biotech company Novozymes has finalized its merger with Chr. Hansen, marking a significant milestone since its Kenya debut in June 2019. Novozymes specializes in innovative biological solutions, such as industrial enzymes and microorganisms, catering to various sectors like household care, brewing, baking, and bio-agriculture. Notably, one of its solutions prolongs bread freshness, combating food waste.

Chr. Hansen, established in 1874, complements Novozymes by supplying bacteria cultures, probiotics, and enzymes necessary for #production. The merged entity, now known as Novonesis, has secured all regulatory approvals and registrations, including with the Danish Business Authority. With a global workforce of 10,000, Novonesis spans 30 industries, aiming to pioneer climate-friendly food products and sustainable solutions to reduce CO2 emissions.

Novonesis, led by President and CEO Ester Baiget, vows to drive innovation in biosolutions, leveraging its combined expertise and biological toolbox. Cees de Jong, Chairman of Novonesis, reaffirms the company’s commitment to customer-centric biosolutions, drawing on over a century of innovation. With an annual revenue of approximately EUR 3.7 billion, Novonesis focuses on promoting healthier lifestyles, improving food quality, and advancing eco-friendly practices.
