Gabon and the African Union (AU) have signed a host country agreement for the AU’s Specialized Technical Committee on Communication and ICT, strengthening cooperation on Africa’s digital transformation agenda.
The agreement was signed in Libreville by Mark-Alexandre Doumba, Gabon’s Minister of Digital Economy, Digitalization, Innovation and New Technologies, and H.E. Lerato D. Mataboge, African Union Commissioner, during the opening of Digital Week.
The signing coincided with discussions by African Union experts on Africa’s digital future, focusing on promoting innovation, expanding digital inclusion and strengthening Africa’s voice in shaping its digital narrative.
The agreement provides a framework for hosting the committee’s work in Gabon, supporting continental discussions on communication and information and communications technology (ICT) issues.
The engagement highlights Gabon’s role in facilitating dialogue on digital development as African countries pursue greater innovation and more inclusive access to digital technologies.
The cooperation is expected to support continued engagement among African stakeholders on digital priorities and contribute to wider efforts to advance the continent’s digital transformation.
