YAS Tanzania has highlighted its digital infrastructure investments at the Tech & AI International Expo 2026, taking place in Zanzibar from 24 September to 2 October. The operator, formerly known as Tigo Tanzania, is showcasing enterprise solutions including fibre connectivity and Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) services, alongside its support for small businesses through the second edition of its Anzia Ulipo Biashara Expo, where more than 18 entrepreneurs are presenting their products and services.
The company has invested more than Sh1 trillion in expanding and upgrading its network infrastructure across Tanzania. According to YAS Dar es Salaam Regional Manager Robert Kasulo, the investment has strengthened network quality while expanding 4G and 5G coverage nationwide. The operator now operates approximately 4,800 towers across the country, around 1,000 more than any other operator. YAS has also been recognised as the Fastest Mobile Network in Tanzania for the third consecutive year by Ookla, with the award presented in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress 2026.
In June 2026, YAS Tanzania and Ericsson announced the first commercial deployment in Africa of Ericsson’s AIR 3285 radio, a dual-band Massive MIMO solution weighing only 31kg. The deployment follows a successful trial and forms part of YAS Tanzania’s ongoing network modernisation and expansion. The AIR 3285 offers up to four times higher uplink capacity and two times higher downlink capacity than traditional 4T/4R solutions, supporting improved network performance and efficiency.

YAS Tanzania has also launched the country’s first fully managed SD-WAN service, designed to help businesses improve connectivity, network performance and security across multiple locations by integrating MPLS, broadband and LTE into a single intelligent network. In April 2026, the company participated in the official launch of 758 communication towers alongside the handover of newly developed fibre infrastructure to the Government of Tanzania, delivering 33 per cent of the total towers. Through its broadband division Yas Fiber, the company has committed approximately TZS 300 billion over 20 years to expand fibre connectivity across Unguja and Pemba, with a target of connecting up to 100,000 households within the first three years.
