Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR) and the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) have received two awards at the 2026 International Public Relations Association (IPRA) Golden World Awards in Athens, Greece.

The organisations were recognised in the Artificial Intelligence in Crisis Management and Publication categories for their work on the Crisis Communication Hub (CCHub), a national framework supported by NITDA.

The framework was developed from empirical research examining the role of artificial intelligence in crisis management and communication.

CCHub focuses on using AI to strengthen crisis communication and improve the detection of misinformation and other digital threats. Its applications include proactive social listening and crisis communication, alongside efforts to identify fake news, deepfakes and other content that can undermine public trust.

The framework also provides a structured approach to coordinating stakeholders during communication emergencies, supporting more organised crisis response.

The awards were formally received at Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens by Hajiya Hadiza Umar, representing NITDA, alongside Professor Yau Sule of IMPR.

NITDA said the recognition reflects its work to promote digital literacy, ethical AI deployment and technology-driven communication strategies in Nigeria.

The awards highlight the growing use of AI tools in crisis communication and efforts to strengthen institutional responses to misinformation and emerging digital threats.
