Paystack has introduced South Africa’s first onsite card checkout for Shopify, allowing shoppers to complete card payments directly within a business’s online checkout without being redirected to a separate payment page.

The update comes ahead of Black Friday, when businesses prepare for increased customer traffic and look for ways to improve the journey from product discovery to completed purchase.

Paystack said its onsite checkout removes an additional step from the payment process, allowing customers to move directly from selecting a product to completing their payment within the Shopify checkout experience.

Thomas McKinnon, Country Lead at Paystack, said the feature is designed to make payments a more natural part of the checkout experience while reducing interruptions at the point of purchase.

Shopify agencies working with South African businesses are also reporting positive results. Mario Tuscano, Managing Director at AskMario, said some clients had recorded an increase in conversion of up to 15% following the introduction of the feature.

Alongside onsite checkout, Paystack is introducing a Shopify integration for Paystack Terminal, its in-person payment device. The integration connects card payments made in physical stores with merchants’ Shopify accounts, supporting businesses that operate both online and in person.

Mechiel Couvaras, Senior Account Manager at Paystack South Africa, said connecting Terminal with Shopify brings online and physical retail operations closer together, particularly during busy trading periods.

South African Shopify merchants can install Paystack’s onsite checkout app to begin accepting card payments directly within their Shopify checkout.
