Airtel Africa Foundation, in partnership with UNICEF, is expanding access to digital learning across Nigerian schools by identifying communities where connectivity and technology can deliver the greatest educational impact.
The foundation said collaboration with local governments has helped it better understand the needs of schoolchildren and identify schools that could benefit most from digital learning investments.
One example is St Agnes Primary School in Lagos, where students are using digital learning tools and connectivity provided through the Airtel-UNICEF partnership. The technology gives learners access to educational resources beyond those available within their classrooms.
The initiative is also supporting teachers as they explore new ways to engage students and enhance learning and development through technology.
Across Nigeria, the wider school connectivity programme has supported more than 1,200 schools and reached approximately 600,000 learners with digital learning tools and connectivity.
Airtel Africa Foundation said the programme forms part of its wider digital inclusion efforts, with connected schools helping young people build digital confidence, access knowledge and develop skills that can support them in a changing economy.
The foundation also emphasised that digital inclusion extends beyond simply providing internet access. Its focus is on ensuring that young people have the ability to use technology effectively for learning, personal development and future opportunities.
Through the partnership with UNICEF and engagement with local governments, the initiative is seeking to strengthen the role of technology in education while expanding meaningful digital access to more learners across Nigeria
