Visa Expands Digital Payment Infrastructure Across Africa Through Visa Pay SDK
Visa is expanding its Visa Pay platform across Africa, enabling more banks, mobile money operators and fintech companies to integrate digital payment services directly into their existing mobile applications.
Through the Visa Pay software development kit (SDK), issuers can embed virtual cards and digital payment capabilities into their platforms, allowing consumers to pay, receive funds and transfer money across participating banks, fintech providers and mobile networks.
The interoperable platform is designed to support a wide range of digital financial use cases, including e-commerce payments, remittances, mobile money-linked virtual cards, humanitarian disbursements and payment processing.
Visa Pay SDK adoption is already growing across several African markets, including Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Tanzania and Sierra Leone.
The technology provides issuers with access to issuer processing capabilities, customer experience tools, tokenisation readiness and Visa-certified security and compliance features. These capabilities are designed to help financial service providers accelerate digital payment deployment in markets where infrastructure limitations can slow innovation.
By simplifying the integration of secure digital payment services, Visa aims to support greater financial inclusion and expand access to modern payment solutions for both banked and underserved communities.
Visa also plans to introduce Tap to Pay functionality, enabling consumers to make contactless payments by tapping their smartphones at compatible payment terminals.
The expansion highlights the growing role of digital payment ecosystems in Africa, where mobile technology and fintech innovation continue to reshape how individuals and businesses access financial services.
