The Ministry of Technology and Science in Zambia has officially launched an online entrepreneurship training programme designed to empower young people with the skills and knowledge needed to create jobs and drive socio-economic transformation. This initiative comes at a critical time as the country works to tackle high youth unemployment, with rates estimated between 17% and 20%. With over 60% of the population under the age of 25, the programme represents a proactive effort to unlock the potential of the next generation of entrepreneurs.

The eight-week course offers comprehensive training that covers the full spectrum of entrepreneurship, including idea generation, business planning, digital marketing, and financial management. A total of 100 students have been selected from 20 TEVET and higher learning institutions across all ten provinces of Zambia, ensuring nationwide representation and inclusivity. The blended learning approach allows participants to study online at their own pace while also engaging in entrepreneurial hubs for peer learning, problem-solving, and valuable networking opportunities.

Graduates of the programme will receive a recognised qualification under the TEVET framework, endorsed by both government and industry stakeholders. This initiative not only supports the objectives of Zambia’s National Youth Policy and Vision 2030 but also aligns with global and continental priorities, particularly the UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 on decent work and economic growth, and the African Union Agenda 2063, which focuses on inclusive growth and sustainable development.

The launch was made possible through collaborative efforts with the Embassy of Finland, Omnia Education Partnerships, and TEVET institutions, whose contributions were acknowledged by Permanent Secretary Eng. Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu. He further emphasized the importance of extending the impact of this training beyond the classroom by ensuring access to mentorship, incubation, financing, and markets. This programme stands as a pivotal step towards equipping Zambia’s youth with the tools to transform challenges into opportunities, fueling innovation and economic progress across the country.
